New Guests and Films Announced for TCMFF 2019

In a tweet today, TCM announced new guests and films for the 10th annual TCM Classic Film Festival (TCMFF) to be held April 11–14, 2019, in Hollywood, California.

Among the guests added are Producer Fred Roos and Casting Director Juliet Taylor. The announcement included four nitrate screenings, The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer (1947), The Dolly Sisters (1945), Road House (1948), and Samson and Delilah (1949). The tweet mentions The Sound of Music (1965) in 70 mm and a 20th Century Fox presentation. The presentation at TCMFF are always awesome.

Also announced were the following films (I have yet to see a press release on this, so this is what I think are new titles based on what I thought the web site looked like a few weeks ago):

Apologies if I missed any or included some that were previously announced.

For me, I'm most excited about The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer, Gentlemen Prefer Blonds, and The Godfather: Part II. Of course, I say The Godfather: Part II, knowing full well that it's a long movie and would take up two time slots, which always makes for a tough sell at TCMFF. Still, with Francis Ford Coppola and most of the principal actors still alive, the right combination of additional guests joining Producer Fred Roos could make it the must-see event of the festival. 

One that might be something of a sleeper at this point is Working Girl. Right now, it is listed as having Casting Director Juliet Taylor appearing. Obviously, Alec Baldwin seems like a natural considering his close relationship with both TCM the Festival over the years. Add in the possibility of any of the other principal actors, Harrison Ford, Sigourney Weaver, Melanie Griffith, and Joan Cusack. I forgot how good the cast was. Obviously, this is just speculation on my part, but adding almost any of the actors could take this light but entertaining romantic comedy right over the top.

Finally, I wonder if they are working to get Victor Mature's daughter Victoria to appear for Samson and Delilah. She attended TCMFF last year.

With 36 films announced, that's better than a third of the schedule based on previous years. The 10th TCMFF is coming together nicely. I can't wait.
