I also liked that you said how typecasting makes the best character actors. Made me think.
Don't forget to read my contribution to the blogathon! :)
Cheers!
Le
Lêhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02419693749682458647noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7754378456709197860.post-45777781084379477892016-12-19T05:10:11.365-08:002016-12-19T05:10:11.365-08:00Only know David Wayne from TV, but even that is a ...Only know David Wayne from TV, but even that is a pretty big pie. The TZ episode ranks among my favorites, but I was a big fan of the campy Batman and I remember him as THe Mad Hatter very well. And although I remember Jim Hutton's memorable fourth wall talk to the viewers towards the end of each Ellery Queen episode, I also remember Wayne as his father. And his role in the TV movie An American Christmas Carol was good too. (You can see a reference to that one in my review of "Scrooged" which will be posted Saturday (Christmas Eve). Enjoyed the review.Quiggyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12434473473185065992noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7754378456709197860.post-4569926856167374412016-12-18T07:34:51.164-08:002016-12-18T07:34:51.164-08:00He also starred on Broadway in the hit musical, FI...He also starred on Broadway in the hit musical, FINIAN'S RAINBOW.
Fine actor. I remember the first David Wayne's film I saw was How to Marry a Millionaire. That was a long time ago, but he's kind of unforgettable! I like the scene with him and Marilyn in the airplane. :) I've also saw him in Adam's Rib of course, but my favourite performance of his is the one in Portrait of Jennie. Don't really know why, I just think there's something very honest and subtle about it and it also creates a great contrasts with his crazy character from Adam's Rib. Versatility is beautiful! ;) Don't forget to read my entry as well! https://thewonderfulworldofcinema.wordpress.com/2016/12/17/what-a-character-blogathon-how-arthur-kennedy-changed-my-cinematic-life/Virginie Pronovosthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12690434044034618183noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7754378456709197860.post-88837141280586766942016-12-17T19:44:48.720-08:002016-12-17T19:44:48.720-08:00This comment has been removed by the author.Virginie Pronovosthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12690434044034618183noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7754378456709197860.post-77059607284254432102016-12-17T16:38:51.351-08:002016-12-17T16:38:51.351-08:00I too watched the 1951 version of M basically out ...I too watched the 1951 version of M basically out of curiosity, but was extremely impressed with the location filming and with David Wayne. Of course, David Wayne doesn't have to do much to impress me. I've been a fan for a long time and he's one of those guys who can do no wrong in my eyes.Caftan Womanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05936895555808823221noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7754378456709197860.post-64808680388053023392016-12-17T14:57:09.779-08:002016-12-17T14:57:09.779-08:00Thanks, Aurora. I really do think that is something that is often overlooked in classic film, the depth of talent they had in character actors, people who could come in for two or three scenes and just nail it.
Chris Sturhannhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04072912463936961199noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7754378456709197860.post-44687559875045911022016-12-17T12:43:04.217-08:002016-12-17T12:43:04.217-08:00Terrific entry and choice, Chris. I agree with you...Terrific entry and choice, Chris. I agree with you on Wayne's performance in the M remake. I saw it a couple of years ago on the big screen and expected trash. What I got was an admirable, worthy remake and Wayne living up to his predecessor. I have to get a copy of that movie. I also love Wayne in Adam's Rib, which offers Wayne's great range in comparison. Thanks so much for this terrific entry!

Also, as I read through the entries of this blogathon the type-cast thing occurs to be as well. These actors mastered something that others couldn't offer and were so good at it that they were asked to repeat over and over again. You're right, that's not a bad thing.

AuroraCitizen Screenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11596338896095275116noreply@blogger.com
