There are so many people trying to get a break in film and so many layers of insulation to keep them away from the right people. I can see it happening, especially if most of her contacts were New York people, and she didn't know many people in LA. Plus, I just looked her up on IMDB, she was only in one episode of that soap. From the special features, I got the impression it was more. Then again, it might have been that she intentionally left out that it was only one episode, so it would look like she'd had more more credits than she actually did. Thanks for your comments. Double Indemnity has that special place for me. I grew up on Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck on TV as the perfect father and mother figures (MacMurray on My Three Sons/Disney movies and Stanwyck on The Big Valley). Seeing them younger and hotter and evil at a time when I was just starting to really appreciate classic film was amazing. The similarity between Double Indemnity and Body Heat makes me carry a lot of the specialness I feel for Double Indemnity over to Body Heat. Yesterday, I got home, unpacked the car, then spent the rest of the day watching movies I'd seen a gazillion times, because I couldn't handle watching anything that required thought.

I love the conference table scene. Danson: No thanks, I'll just breathe.

I don't think Matty will ever be happy. She was married to a rich guy, who spends most of his time away. There's no indication that he didn't like her spending money. In fact, he buys her nice things, Mercedes, huge diamond, beautiful house on the water.... She wants all of the money, but she already had access to what the money could buy. At the end, she has all the money, the freedom, and a beautiful location, but she doesn't look happy. Plus, she has two murders and ruination of Ned on her conscience, if she even has a conscience. I think she's so broken she can never be happy.Chris Sturhannhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04072912463936961199noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7754378456709197860.post-25877676142672582822017-07-25T12:42:57.989-07:002017-07-25T12:42:57.989-07:00Sorry for taking so long to respond. Historically, a lot of fine actors got their break and training in that arena. If you've got the goods, you learn to do the job well and quickly. Fortunately, "cooler" heads prevailed and the right girl got the right role - and, how! - as they might say in a film-noir.Caftan Womanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05936895555808823221noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7754378456709197860.post-52476022747828275052017-07-24T07:16:35.379-07:002017-07-24T07:16:35.379-07:00Great Review. Thanks for bringing back all the memories. Only now can i appreciate all the Noir touches, but i remember it well. Summary was spot on. Gotta appreciate the DVD extras!!kebma2424https://www.blogger.com/profile/15851005712791204493noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7754378456709197860.post-83039270276845988682017-07-24T03:35:00.824-07:002017-07-24T03:35:00.824-07:00I saw this one in the theater when it first came o...I saw this one in the theater when it first came out. I remember quite a bit of it, even though I haven't had the chance to see it again. (I remember William Hurt was a real sleazy SOB, and Kathleen Turner was hotter than a watch in Times Square...) I had not been initiated into the wonders of film noir before then, so I missed out on the parallels, but now that I have grown to love film noir, I need to see it again. I loved reading you write about. You describe it very well. Hurt and Turner were off the hook with love scenes burned in my memory...and the entire story was like a well-put together puzzle.( I love J.A.Preston and everyone lighting up a cigarette but Danson at the conference room table ). I just WAIT to hear Ned tell Matty:

"Experience shows I can be convinced...0f anything."

Thanks for joining my blogathon. I don't host one at the drop of a hat so I'm glad you picked mine to make a contribution. ThxXx again man!

By the way tell me, do you think Matty is happy?CineMavenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13537655613351292342noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7754378456709197860.post-55807006713332582872017-07-23T20:11:05.604-07:002017-07-23T20:11:05.604-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.CineMavenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13537655613351292342noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7754378456709197860.post-30664345020236596932017-07-20T13:31:48.158-07:002017-07-20T13:31:48.158-07:00Oh, man, you're taking me back. In the late 19...Oh, man, you're taking me back. In the late 1980's, I discovered Mickey Rourke and had to devour everything he was in. He made minuscule appearances in "Heaven's Gate" and "1941" but I could never find them at the video store. The next earliest was "Body Heat". (I also remember it being mentioned on an episode of "Cheers" when the gang was talking about movies with lots of sweating in them - and dancing Ted Danson was, of course, in "Cheers"!) I rented it, loved it and bought it - I still own it on VHS! I remember having trouble with the two leads as I didn't find either of them traditionally good-looking. Excellent movie, though, with a great conclusion - as a teen-ager I had to rewind and watch a couple times to really get what happened. And you talk about "noir touches" - I distinctly remember Turner giving Hurt that fedora and saying "it's for when it starts coming down on you" or something. Later in the film, when Hurt is starting to really be up against it, we get a shot of the fedora hanging on a coat rack. Kasdan just shows us the fedora for a few seconds which reminds us of what she said about it. That was great. Now I have to watch this again - and maybe come up into the '90's and pick it up on DVD! Good piece.Wellsyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14932964447624723590noreply@blogger.com
